NGO delivers ultramodern facilities, a borehole, a generator set, school kits to pupils
The Ufiaeno Foundation has intensified its drive to promote inclusive, equitable and quality education in line with Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4) by upgrading infrastructure and equipping pupils at Christian School, Ikot Usen, in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
In its recent intervention, the Foundation commissioned an ultra-modern toilet complex, drilled a potable water borehole and presented a brand-new generating set to the school, thereby improving hygiene, water access and reliable power supply. In addition, scores of children from low-income families received a full complement of school uniforms, sandals, bags, textbooks and other essential learning materials with the Foundation underwriting all school fees and levies to ease the financial burden on parents, boost attendance and uplift learning outcomes.
The Executive Chairman of the Foundation, Engr. Akan Etim Ntia, said Ufiaeno Foundation’s core mission is to advance literacy and educational support for underprivileged children. He noted that this was the organisation’s fifth major intervention in rural schools and urged the school’s management to safeguard the new facilities. He also disclosed that the Foundation has previously constructed classroom blocks and sanitary facilities in other underserved communities.
Representing the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Permanent Secretary Dr. Roseline Anthony praised the gesture, describing education as “the greatest gift we can offer our children.” She noted that economic challenges have deprived many of basic learning materials and stressed that “educating our children is a collective responsibility requiring the partnership of government, communities and well-meaning organisations.”
Anthony also said the donation reinforces the state government’s Arise Agenda for educational development and urged pupils to study hard, remain disciplined and strive for excellence.
Speaking for the host community, Mr. Bassey Bassey Okon commended the Foundation for addressing the needs of less-privileged children and assured that the facilities and materials would be properly utilised. Parent Mr. Eskor Asuquo described education as “the bedrock of development,” while pupil Miss Deborah called the donation “a milestone in the history of the school,” noting that the Foundation has also sponsored some pupils’ education.
Head Teacher Mrs. Hannah Gabriel Etiim revealed that before the Foundation’s intervention, the school struggled with theft and poor security, a problem now solved after the Ufiaeno Foundation hired security personnel. She prayed for God’s blessings on the organisation and appealed to parents and community members to reciprocate its gesture by ensuring pupils attend school regularly, complete assignments and maintain the materials provided.
Miss Favour Emmanuel, a student of Community Secondary School, Ikot Usen, read a goodwill message from Jens and Gaby, friends of the Foundation from Germany.
By addressing basic educational needs, the Ufiaeno Foundation is not only empowering individual students but also reinforcing the broader push toward achieving quality education for all by 2030.
The event was attended by village heads, community leaders, parents, teachers, children, and the International President of IWADU, Otuekong Prince Godwin Okon, Barr. Kufre Okon, Barr. Anietie Bassey and key stakeholders in Akwa Ibom State’s education sector.
