The Akwa Ibom State Government has highlighted major achievements recorded under Governor Umo Eno’s administration over the past three years while unveiling stronger measures to address emerging security challenges, particularly the activities of destructive herders across parts of the state.
The disclosures were made during the State Media Briefing held at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Uyo, as part of activities marking the third anniversary of Governor Eno’s administration.
Speaking at the briefing, the Commissioner for Internal Security and Waterways, Brig. Gen. Koko Essien (Rtd), announced the activation of an Anti-Grazing Task Force to curb the destruction of farmlands and safeguard rural communities from threats associated with uncontrolled grazing.
He also unveiled a dedicated security hotline, 08066446555, through which residents can report incidents involving destructive grazing and other security-related concerns.
According to the commissioner, the ministry is collaborating with reformed former herders to identify criminal elements, gather intelligence, and prevent conflicts between farmers and herders.
“The destruction of crops and threats to lives will no longer be tolerated,” Essien stated, assuring citizens that security agencies would respond promptly to credible reports and complaints.
The media briefing also served as a platform for the government to present an overview of achievements recorded under the ARISE Agenda since Governor Eno assumed office in 2023. Government officials highlighted significant progress in critical sectors, including infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, security, and economic development.
Journalists from the Unity Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), alongside other media practitioners, participated in the coverage of the event, helping to disseminate information on government policies, programmes, and development initiatives to the public.
Officials emphasized the vital role of the media in fostering transparency, accountability, and public engagement, noting that the briefing provided an opportunity to outline ongoing projects and future plans aimed at improving the welfare of citizens and accelerating development across the state.
The event concluded with a renewed appeal to residents to support government efforts toward sustaining peace, enhancing security, and promoting inclusive development throughout Akwa Ibom State.
