Governor Umo Eno has emerged unopposed as the sole governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State following the successful conclusion of the party’s governorship primaries held across the state on Thursday.
The primaries, described by party stakeholders and observers as peaceful, orderly, and well-coordinated, witnessed massive participation by party faithful, delegates, and supporters who turned out in large numbers to endorse the governor ahead of the forthcoming elections.
The exercise ended on what many party members called a triumphant note, with widespread celebrations across various wards and local government areas as Governor Eno secured unanimous acceptance as the APC flags bearer.
Speaking after the exercise, the member representing Itu/Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Ime Okon, commended the peaceful conduct of the primaries and attributed the success of the exercise to Governor Eno’s inclusive leadership style and growing grassroots appeal.
He noted that the people of Ibiono Ibom had continued to demonstrate loyalty and commitment to the APC, expressing confidence that the momentum generated during the governorship primaries would extend to future electoral contests, including the presidential primaries and the general elections.
Okon further stated that Governor Eno’s unopposed emergence reflected the level of trust, confidence, and unity existing within the party, stressing that members remained convinced about the governor’s developmental vision for the state.
Also reacting to the outcome, the Chairman of Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area, Asuakak Umoh, described the primary election conducted in Ibiono Western 2, Ward 4, comprising 25 villages, as peaceful, impressive, and highly successful.
According to him, the massive turnout and enthusiastic participation of delegates and party members demonstrated overwhelming support for Governor Eno’s administration and performance in office.
Umoh expressed optimism that future APC candidates contesting elective positions would continue to enjoy similar support and solidarity from party faithful across the state.
In the same vein, Ward Leader for Ibiono Western 1, Ward 3, Enefiok Essien, praised the smooth and transparent conduct of the exercise, describing the process as consensus-driven and reflective of growing unity within the APC at the grassroots level.
Political observers believe the peaceful outcome of the governorship primaries signals increasing internal cohesion within the APC in Akwa Ibom as the party intensifies preparations for the next phase of the electoral process.
With Governor Umo Eno now officially confirmed as the APC governorship candidate, party stakeholders are expected to consolidate support around his administration and the ARISE Agenda as political campaigns gradually gather momentum ahead of the general elections.
