A former spokesperson of the House of Representatives, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, has called on Nigerians to support the reelection of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Godswill Akpabio, and Pastor Umo Eno, citing their performance in office as a reason for the renewed mandate.
Eyiboh made the call while speaking with journalists during a media chat held in Uyo yesterday, where he highlighted key achievements of the current administration and some lawmakers at both national and state levels.
According to him, the Tinubu administration’s reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidy and the introduction of the student loan scheme, have had a significant impact. He noted that millions of Nigerian students who previously lacked access to education due to financial constraints are now able to attend school through the loan initiative.
Eyiboh who is a former member Representing Eket/Onna/ Esit Eket/ Ibeno Federal Constituency in the House of Representative also described the amended Electoral Act as a “game changer,” stressing that it has strengthened internal party democracy and reduced post-primary litigations. “Today, aspirants can test their popularity directly with the people through primaries, rather than relying on court cases that often create conflict and instability,” he said.
On the legislative front, Eyiboh praised Senate President Akpabio for his growing international profile, particularly his emergence as an executive member of the International Parliamentary Union. He described the development as historic, noting that it has restored Nigeria’s presence in global parliamentary diplomacy after several decades.
He further commended the improved working relationship between the executive and legislative arms of government, saying it has enhanced Nigeria’s global image and strengthened bilateral engagements. He cited recent international outings by President Tinubu as evidence of this synergy and expressed optimism that such engagements would yield economic benefits.
Eyiboh also pointed to increased government revenue, which he said has strengthened the financial capacity of state and local governments to deliver development projects. He emphasized the importance of political stability, noting that the National Assembly has repeatedly passed votes of confidence in Akpabio’s leadership.
He praised lawmakers such as Senator Ekong Sampson and Okpulupm Etteh for their constituency interventions, including scholarship programs, but noted that their achievements are not widely known due to poor communication.
“The challenge is not performance but communication. They have done well, but they have not informed the public enough,” he said, adding that he was speaking out to bridge that gap.
On development in Eket Federal Constituency, Eyiboh disclosed that projects worth over three billion naira were expected but could not be fully realized due to national budgetary constraints in 2025. He expressed confidence that ongoing reforms would create better conditions for such investments in the future.
Reiterating his stance, Eyiboh said Nigerians should support President Tinubu for a second term to consolidate ongoing reforms. He also backed Akpabio’s return as Senate President, noting that continuity in leadership would sustain progress.
The Special Adviser to the Senate President on Media and Publicity also cautioned politicians to stop using the name of the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, in pursuit of their political aspirations. He concluded that the leadership of Tinubu, Akpabio, and Umo Eno has delivered results and deserves renewed public mandate.
