Buhari Family Sends ‘THANK YOU’ Message to Nigerians and World Leaders

The family of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed deep gratitude to Nigerians, world leaders, and all who participated in his burial and offered prayers in his honour.

In a statement released on Tuesday, 22 July 2025, and shared on the late president’s official social media handle, the family—represented by Malam Mamman Daura—thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, First Lady Senator Remi Tinubu, and Vice President Kashim Shettima for their unwavering support before and after Buhari’s passing.

“It is truly comforting to receive such support from the President and the Vice President, Kashim Shettima, who went to the United Kingdom and here in Daura during the mourning period. These gestures have given us the courage to face this loss,” Mamman Daura said.

The family also appreciated President Tinubu for declaring a public holiday and renaming the University of Maiduguri in honour of Buhari.

In their message, the family extended gratitude to leaders from across the globe, including King Charles III of England, the Secretary General of the United Nations, Amina Mohammed, the Chairman of the African Union, and ECOWAS leaders. Former Nigerian leaders such as General Abdulsalami Abubakar were also acknowledged for their support.

“Muhammadu Buhari’s demise is an irreparable loss, but the overwhelming expressions of kindness and solidarity have given us strength,” the statement read.

The family thanked state governors, former governors, past vice presidents—Atiku Abubakar, Namadi Sambo, Yemi Osinbajo, and Babagana Kingibe—as well as National Assembly leaders, traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil society groups, security agencies, and business leaders such as Aliko Dangote, Abdul Samad Rabiu, Muhammadu Indimi, Dahiru Mangal, Kola Adesina, and Nasiru Danu.

“We also thank the people of Nigeria and all foreign missions for their prayers, condolence visits, and messages. May Almighty Allah bless and reward you all,” the family concluded.

The statement was signed by Garba Shehu on behalf of the Buhari family.
